    Hello, John Babcock

    Welcome to the Microsoft community.

Thank you for your feedback. According to the screenshot you provided, the problem is that the USB xHCI Compliant Host Controller displays error code 10 with a yellow exclamation mark. This usually means that there is a driver issue or hardware conflict with the device. Also, the system is not shutting down or rebooting properly, which could be related to an issue with that USB controller. Here are some troubleshooting options:

    1. Uninstall and reinstall the USB driver

Open Device Manager: Right-click on the Start menu and select Device Manager.

Locate and expand Universal Serial Bus Controller, then right-click USB xHCI Compliant Host Controller and select Uninstall Device.

Check the box to remove the driver software for this device (if available) and click Uninstall.

Once the uninstallation is complete, reboot the computer and Windows will automatically reinstall the USB driver to see if the problem is resolved.

    1. Updating the Chipset Driver

This issue may be caused by incompatible or outdated chipset drivers, especially when dealing with USB 3.0 or USB 3.1 controllers. You can go to the motherboard manufacturer's official website, download and install the latest chipset driver.

    1. Run hardware and device troubleshooting tools

Windows has a built-in hardware troubleshooting tool that can help you diagnose and fix USB device-related problems:

Open Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshooting.

    Select Other Troubleshooting Tools.

Locate Hardware and Devices, click Run Troubleshooter, and follow the on-screen instructions.

    1. Check BIOS Setup

Sometimes there may be options related to USB controllers, especially XHCI (USB 3.0 controller) in BIOS setup. You can try to enter BIOS setup to see if there are any related USB options and try to enable or disable them.

    1. Disable Fast Startup

Sometimes the Windows Fast Startup feature may cause some hardware devices to not load properly at startup. You can try to disable it:

Open Control Panel > Power Options > Select Power button features.

Click Change settings that are currently unavailable and then uncheck Enable Fast Startup.

Save the changes, restart the computer and see if the problem is solved.

    1. Try an in-place upgrade

This will refresh your Windows and will not delete your data, but it is still recommended that you back up for important data.

If the problem persists, you may need to consider replacing the hardware (e.g. USB controller or motherboard). I look forward to your feedback.
