    Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

I understand that you are unable to connect your phone on the computer. I’ll certainly assist you with the issue.

    However, please let us know:

    1. Were you able to connect the phone to the computer earlier?
    2. Are you aware of any changes made to the computer prior to this issue?
    3. Which build version of Windows 10 is installed on the computer? Refer Which version of Windows operating system am I running?

One of the things you can check is if there is any yellow yield on any driver in Device Manager. To open Device Manager, press Windows logo key + X, and select Device Manager.

You may want to try updating the MTP device by referring the suggestions provided by Cole_538replied on August 31, 2016 in the thread USB (MTP) not working, driver not installing and see if that helps.

Note: Do not access the linkMedia Transfer Protocol Porting Kit****mentioned in the above thread.

You may also want to refer the troubleshooting steps mentioned below:

    1. Connect the USB device to the computer.
    2. Press Windows logo key + E, to open File Explorer.
    3. Navigate to C:\Windows\INF
    4. Look for wpdmtp.inffile, right click on it and select Install.
    5. Accept the prompt.

Let us know how it goes.

    Regards,

    Hi BinaryEmperor

How are you? I hope you are doing good.

Welcome to Microsoft Community. I am Juliet, an independent advisor. It's my pleasure to help you today. I know how frustrating this may be for you but I'll do my very best to help you :)

    try the following:

    1. Restart your computer if you haven't done so already. The Code 31 error could source from a temporary memory glitch.
    2. Did you install a device or make a change in Device Manager just before the Code 31 error appeared? If so, it's possible that the change you made caused the Code 31 error.

Undo the change if you can, restart your PC, and then check again for the Code 31 error.

I hope it helps! Let me know the results.

Please Let me know if you have more questions or the above method didn't work for you, I'll be more than happy to assist you further :)
