    Hi AndyHewitt1-

I'm Kevin B. Windows user like you. I do apologize for the inconvenience, let me help you sort things out.

Microsoft usually offers the upgrade to those devices Microsoft believes are the most likely to successfully install the upgrade. If the computer passes the hardware requirements, windows updates will offer the upgrade in stages until such time that device is ready to install the upgrade.

There is no announcement yet if Microsoft will add more CPU on the list, we are all waiting and hoping that new CPU might be added on the list.

You can reach out to your computer manufacturer to check/upgrade your processor to one that support Windows 11.

You can also stay with Windows 10 as it is still supported until 2025.

Hope this will help and have a blessed day!

    Thanks,

    Kevin B.

"You can reach out to your computer manufacturer to check/upgrade your processor to one that support Windows 11."

Don't waste your time for that! This letter U in CPU type i5-6200U mean that CPU is soldered directly to mother board and you cant change it.

    Hi AndyHewitt1-

    Correction on my first post:

Microsoft usually offers the upgrade to those devices Microsoft believes are the most likely to successfully install the upgrade. If the computer passes the hardware requirements, windows updates will offer the upgrade in stages until such time that device is ready to install the upgrade.

Microsoft announced that they have now completed testing phase, and no more processors will be added to the official list.

You can reach out to your computer manufacturer to check/upgrade your processor to one that support Windows 11.

You can also stay with Windows 10 as it is still supported until 2025. Sorry for the confusion.

Hope this will help and have a blessed day!

    Thanks,

    Kevin B.

Its not that they won't work. It will likely work same as Windows 10 with default settings. However, Microsoft has its requirements and what they are wanting to do.

    @AndyHewitt1

The i5-6200U is already slow to begin with. If Microsoft forced all the security in Windows 11, it would run much slower.

The processor requirement is the most restrictive; supported processors include 8th-generation and newer Intel Core processors as well as AMD Ryzen 2000-series processors and newer. These are all chips that launched in late 2017 and early 2018. Older computers can't officially run Windows 11.

Technology moves forward not backward. I can't see them having employees test older processors to see if they will work.
