Hello,

I am an online teacher. My school is debating using Microsoft Class in Teams with students. A possible alternative is using a Microsoft Class Notebook. Can you provide a comparison?

What programs are we missing out on by having our students use the class notebook instead of teams and vice versa?

Thanks!

OneNote Class Notebook and Microsoft Teams to help you make an informed decision for your online teaching:

OneNote Class Notebook: Purpose: Designed specifically for education, it provides a collaborative space for teachers and students.

Components: Content Library: Teachers share course materials here. Collaboration Space: Teachers and students collaborate on shared content. Private Notebooks: Each student has their own private space.

Pedagogical Potential: Feedback: Students receive feedback from teachers and peers. Learning Objectives: Teachers outline goals and criteria. Integration: Often used alongside Microsoft Teams.

Microsoft Teams: Virtual Classroom: Offers a broader platform for communication, collaboration, and organization.

Features: Meetings: Conduct live classes, discussions, and presentations. Assignments: Distribute and manage tasks. File Sharing: Collaborate on files. Chat: Real-time communication.

Class Notebook Integration: Each class team in Teams has a connected OneNote Class Notebook. Teachers can manage content, assignments, and communication.

Permissions and Features: Teachers have special permissions to lead meetings and manage the team. Students can access shared resources and collaborate.

Missing Features (compared to Class Notebook): Private Notebooks: Teams lacks individual student notebooks. Content Library: Not as focused on sharing course content. Learning Objectives: Less explicit goal setting.

Ultimately, the choice depends on your teaching goals and preferences. OneNote Class Notebook emphasizes pedagogy, while Microsoft Teams offers a broader suite of features for virtual classrooms
