Verification / Security message

For the first time Hotmail or Outlook (who knows what I have as it is live.com)

Is asking me for security verification before I can log on.

Help us protect your account

Since you're trying to access sensitive info, you need to use a security code to verify your account. How would you like to receive your code?

I've now entered a world or Catch 22 / Brazil (the Terry Gilliam film), where I can't logon to Hotmail (or that this now been replaced by outlook) until I give a Verification Code.

The Code is being sent to ????? My hotmail or Outlook address.

So I say use a different address, GMail, good old Google doesn't let you down (why can't I just use my mobile number to verify and why on a MONDAY morning as you trying to annoy me)

A 4 digit code is sent there, I go to live.com enter it.

Great I am back on email, but it's still not happy and has given me

Your 30 day waiting period ends on 5/14/2014. Until this period completes you won't be able to access some sensitive information such as billing info, and some Windows features like password syncing won't work.

If you've regained access to your old security info listed before, click "I found my security info" to get back in to your account and cancel any changes.

st*****@outlook.com"

So questions

  1. If I use Hotmail.com email addresses, but the URL is Live.com, how do I get to the Outlook.com to find the secruity info? Outlook.com and hotmail.com go to the same email address. Why are verification codes for 1 email sent the to what is pretty much the same email address
  2. As I can't get the verification code what happens on the 14th? Do I loose the email address I have been using for years?
  3. Why have you decided to be so annoying and do this? I didn't get it on my outlook.com app
  4. STOP IT, Google don't do this rubbish.

And p.s. this is not present in any of the Sub-Topic's so hopefully it doesn't sit in the wrong area and doesn't get answered

I am having the same problem.   I don't have my old email address either that it is suppose to be sending an email too.  Is it really going to lock us out of our emails for a month?  How will we get the code if we don't have that email address anymore?  I'm stressed!

    Ok

Slight update (I've had my coffee, so more chilled)

    So I've learnt something new.

S**********@hotmail.com and S************@outlook.com are actually different email addresses.

I don't think I've ever logged onto my Outlook.com address before, just logged on and seen the welcome email.

Great that's cleared up, but still no security email/verifcaiton code.

In @hotmail.com I have gone into Settings / Accountr Details / edit Security Info

    Am presented with the msg

*"*Did you request a security info change?

s**********@gmail.com started a process to change the password or security info for this Microsoft account. This process will be completed on 14/5/2014."

    Yep, so click yes.

This does not help me, I have access to the @hotmail.com, @outlook.com and @gmail.com

And apart for the 4 digit code emailed to the @gmail.com I have not seen any other Security info?

    What do I do next?

What will happen on the 14th?

This is all too confusing for a Monday morning

    Thanks
