Date Modified - Meaning

Does anyone know what the "Date Modified" means on a file? What triggers the "Date Modified" to change? could simply opening a folder trigger the "Date Modified" to change? could opening the actual file without making any modifications or saving or copying onto a drive or other folder trigger the "Date Modified" to change?

Finally can the "Date Modified" be changed manually to alter the date to an earlier or later date? How?

Thanks in advance for your input.

Carolina

    Hi Carolina,

With regard to your concern, the Date Modified is actually the date when the file was created. It should not change when you send it. The created date is when the file was originally created and the modified date is from the last time you've modified the file.

The Last Modified Date for OneDrive will be updated when one of the following events is triggered:

    1. A file is edited or changed within a users document library or "Shared with Everyone" folder either through the sync-client or using a web browser.
    2. A file or folder is deleted within a users document library or "Shared with Everyone folder using either the sync-client or web browser.
    3. A file or folder is created within a users document library or "Shared with Everyone folder using the sync-client or web browser.
    4. The OneDrive service is activated/setup using either the web browser or sync client a user.

Should you have any other concerns, feel free to message us back.

    Thank you.
