Intermittent Page not found error for pages that exist

Split from this thread.

I just had the same issue, about 3 minutes ago. It's very intermittent. As soon as I get the error, if I click the Home button (it's the default page in I.E. and Edge), the page comes up just like it's supposed to. Therefore, I cannot get a Fiddler trace, because it never happens 2 times in a row.

But the issue is still there.

    Hi Karla,

    Thanks for your updates.

If you can reproduce the issue now, please follow the steps in https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/privatemessage/inbox to collect the Fiddler log and provide the corresponding information in https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/privatemessage/inbox as well for our further investigation.

    Thanks,

    Cliff

    No that's exactly opposite.

They can't get to the home page (intermittently) but after they see "Page not found" if they click the Home button once or twice, then it loads. Once the home page of the main site loads, the users are able to get to any linked pages and subsites.

It seems to only happen the first time (each day) that a user goes to SharePoint. And to get to anything on SharePoint, they go to the main site's home page.

There are no incidents listed in the Admin center.

    Hi Karla,

From your description, it seems that the issue happens when users go to the subsites by clicking the hyperlinks on the home page in the main site and the home page has no such issues. If yes, I’d like to confirm whether the issue happens when you click on all hyperlinks. Moreover, I suggest you check if there are some SPO incidents in your tenant via navigating to the SharePoint admin center>clicking on Health>Service health. If yes, upload some screenshots for our reference. Please also check if you can reproduce the issue today.

    Thanks,

    Cliff

    Hi Karla,

I’d like to confirm whether you can reproduce the issue in your environment now. Meanwhile, please confirm whether the issue happens in a specific page in a specific site.

    Thanks,

    Cliff

It happens to most of our users at least once per day. When it happens, we notice it on our main site SharePoint home page, because that's the one that is always opened first. We only have one main site, and then we have some other sites that are within that one. Users only get to the sub-sites using links on the home page of the main site, so I have no way of knowing whether the issue would happen if someone tried to go directly to a subsite.

I had the issue twice today.  (Nov 9, 2018)
