Excel Error Bars

I’m trying to add standard deviation error bars into a bar chart on excel, and I need to do custom ones. I sleect the graph, select add chart element, and go to add error bars but I only have the options to do none, standard error, percentage, or standard deviation (not the correct SD though). Everywhere seems to say there should be a fifth option below these that says custom error bars but I dont have this. Any ideas where I can find it?

Hi IG,

You will find Custom option to enter specific value in Add Chart Element-> More Error Bars Options.

Here is my test result in Excel for Mac:

You can check whether you can see this option in Chart Element. If you still don’t have this option, please provide the screenshots if it and the screenshot of your Excel -> About Excel page. We will provide further help.

Best Regards,

Ivy

Unfortunately, More Error Bar Options won't get you where you want to go. I believe what you are looking for is the Format Error Bars task pane which Ivy shows in the screen shot but doesn't indicate how to produce it. After selecting Standard Deviation right-click one of the error bars & select Format Error Bars..., the Custom option is at the bottom of the pane.

If that isn't what you're looking for please provide a link to one or more of the "Everywhere" sources you're referring to. I can find nowhere that indicates Custom Error Bars being listed in the main Add Chart Elements> Error Bars submenu.
