I am trying to import Excel files into Access 2019 which I have done many times. Suddenly, when I try to get an Excel file, I get the error message cited. If I click Open, I can go through the steps of importing the file but it won't save the new .mdb file. It fails with any Excel file I try.

Unfortunately, when the import steps were completed and I click Finish it tells me that my import was saved but I cannot find any new .mdb files on the disk.

When you import an Excel file, it is imported INTO the currently open Access file. If you opened an mdb file then the data imported will be in the table you imported to in THAT file.
