I suddenly cannot open web links from Outlook emails.

I followed the steps twice and picked both Microsoft Edge and Default browser.I still get the message: "Your organization's policies are preventing us from completing this action for you. For more info, please contact your help desk." I am not part of an organisation. I have no help desk. What should I do?

    Hi Albert,

Thank you for reaching out Microsoft Community. I totally understand the importance of having your issue resolved. I will do my best to help you with your concern.

I just want to know if are you using Windows 10 or Windows 11? I also want to know if what type of Office license that you have? Is it Microsoft 365 Family, Microsoft 365 Personal or Office 2024?

This issue can occur due to incorrect registry settings or default browser configurations. Since you're not part of an organization, the message might be misleading. Here are some steps to resolve it:

    1. Reset Default Browser Settings:
      • Open your default browser (e.g., Microsoft Edge or Chrome).
      • Go to settings and reset the browser to its default configuration.
    2. Repair Office Installation:
      • Press Windows + I to open Settings.
      • Navigate to Apps > Installed Apps (or Apps & Features in older versions).
      • Find Microsoft Office in the list, select it, and click "Modify."
      • Choose "Quick Repair" and follow the instructions.
    3. Check Registry Settings:
      • Press Windows + R to open the Run dialog box.
      • Type regedit and press Enter to open the Registry Editor.
      • Navigate to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\htmlfile\shell\open\command.
      • Ensure the value is set to the path of your default browser (e.g., "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft\Edge\Application\msedge.exe" "%1" for Edge).
      • If you're unsure, back up the registry before making changes.
    4. Reset Internet Explorer Settings:
      • Open Internet Explorer (even if you don't use it).
      • Go to Tools > Internet Options > Advanced.
      • Click "Reset" and follow the prompts.
