My Windows Update shows the following being “successfully installed” 46 times in the last 66 days (since 5/24/25). So it’s an average of every 1 or 2 days.

Hewlett-Packard - USB - 11/11/2018 12:00:00 AM - 49.0.4395.18315

How do I get this to stop installing?

Here’s a screenshot showing some of the days:

Hi, good day! I'm John Dev a Windows user like you and I'll be happy to assist you today. I know this has been difficult for you, rest assured, I'm going to do my best to help you.

Note: It is always recommended to download and install drivers from the manufacturer's Support page. If you're not experiencing any hardware issues, there's no need to install this driver update.

Please check if you can still use the “Show or Hide Updates” troubleshooter to hide the driver update. Window Update won’t install hidden drivers or updates. Run the troubleshooter then please try hiding the Hewlett Packard-USB driver update that will show in the list. You may try restarting your pc if it helps.

I look forward to receiving your update and I'm willing to collaborate with you till we resolve the issue. Do keep me informed.

    Kind regards,

    Hello Thom Crusher,

Thanks for positing it. Follow the steps

    1. Pause Windows Update temporarily to stop any installs while you troubleshoot.
    2. Uninstall the problematic driver:
      • Open Device Manager.
      • Find the "Universal Serial Bus controllers" section (or the relevant hardware).
      • Right-click the device and select Uninstall device (check “Delete the driver software for this device” if available).
      • Restart your PC.
    3. Hide the problematic update:
      • Download the "Show or hide updates" troubleshooter tool from Microsoft.
      • Run the tool and “hide” the HP USB update. This will prevent Windows Update from reinstalling it.
    4. Check for updated drivers:
      • Visit the HP website or use HP Support Assistant to download the latest driver for your device.
      • Install the driver manually.
    5. Resume Windows Update to keep your system secure.

These steps should stop the same update from reinstalling repeatedly. If issues persist, consider resetting Windows Update components or seeking further support from HP or Microsoft.

    Best Regards,

    Jerald Felix
