Why does mouse glitch when moving window?

Experiencing strange behavior in Windows when moving the On-Screen Keyboard (osk.exe) window. The mouse or keyboard input starts acting erratically, causing the window to teleport around uncontrollably. The movement of the window does not match the mouse input, resulting in a glitchy and unpredictable behavior. Disconnecting the keyboard seems to temporarily resolve the issue.

Steps already taken:

  • Confirmed that no accessibility features (Sticky Keys, Filter Keys, etc.) are enabled.
  • Checked for issues in USBTreeView (no disconnections).
  • Verified that Reliability Monitor shows no warnings or errors.
  • Tested multiple mice and keyboards.

The problem persists even without internet access or external interference. The input lag or glitch seems particularly triggered when interacting with osk.exe, suggesting a potential rendering bug.

Any insights on the cause or potential solutions?

    Hi @nobuko c,

Thanks for your reply. I don’t think this issue is related to system load. CPU, SSD, and RAM usage are all normal with no spikes or bottlenecks.

I’ve already tested with multiple mice and keyboards, and the same glitch happens no matter which device I use. I also ran USBTreeView (no reconnection events) and checked Reliability Monitor (no errors or warnings). Everything looks clean.

That’s why I don’t think it’s a hardware or performance issue — it really seems to be a Windows-level problem, especially since the glitch specifically happens when moving the On-Screen Keyboard (osk.exe) window.

    Hello,

Could your system be experiencing abnormal CPU or SSD load, or possibly insufficient RAM?

If none of these seem to be the issue, please try downloading and installing the latest graphics driver from your computer manufacturer, or directly from NVIDIA, AMD, or Intel, depending on your hardware.

Additionally, performing a clean boot may help determine whether other software or services are affecting system performance.
