Hello Team,
since two weeks now every "Planned Maintenance to Azure SQL Managed Instance got cancelled".

Alle Test und Entw werden gecancelled _ seit Mitte August 2025

Has anybody seen the same behavior bevor, or does anybody know why that is ?

Seems strange to us - the last 3 Years we have never seen somthing like this.

Greetings from Zurich, Switzerland

Hi Roger Bossard,

Thanks for posting your query on Microsoft Q&A!

Reasons for Cancellation:

  1. Maintenance Policy: Generally, Azure SQL Managed Instances carry out planned maintenance within designated windows. If the maintenance is repeatedly canceled, it may be due to updates being postponed or problems encountered during previous maintenance attempts.
  2. Maintenance Failure and Rescheduling: If a maintenance event fails, the changes are rolled back, and the event gets rescheduled. This often leads to multiple cancellations if there’s an ongoing issue necessitating the rescheduling of the maintenance event.

You can refer this Microsoft document for the details.

Update: Although seeing multiple cancellations on your test server may seem unusual, we have brought this issue to our product team’s attention. As confirmed, the last two maintenance operations were completed successfully rather than being canceled. I’m glad to hear that. (Customer confirmation over private messaging - after weeks of Update-Cancellation. The last two got successfully COMPLETE a few days ago. WNB7-VR8 - Complete - 13.09.2025 XSHG-T_0 - Complete - 14.09.2025)
