Suddenly I am no longer able to add a Note to a cell. That item just stopped appearing.

Is this the case in all Excel files or just one in particular? If only the one file is it in the .xls or .xlsx file type?

What are now called Notes formerly were Comments. When MS introduced New Comments the old Comments were eliminated & [\by popular demand] were reintroduced as Notes.

I figured it out on my own. That spreadsheet had some issues, that prevented me from adding a Note to it. All good now. Thanks for your input.

    Hi Roe,

Thank you for posting, I am here to help you today.

Possible cause is an outdated version of Office, disabled settings, or a protected worksheet.

Try this steps check if this will help:

    Update Microsoft 365:

Ensure you have the latest version of Microsoft Office for Mac. An outdated installation can cause feature glitches.

    For the meantime try this:

Restart the Mac to see if the issue persists. if it does, a need for updates is most like the cause. Please provide the present Version Numbers of both macOS & Office so the status can be confirmed.

I hope you find this information helpful. Please let us know if you have any further questions If the answer is helpful, please click "Accept Answer".

    Best regards,
