I have 2 issues:

  1. On the spreadsheet I am working with columns A, B, and C do not appear. I can't go to A1. How do I get to column A1?
  2. On the same spreadsheet I can not lock the top 2 rows. When I do lock what I think are the first 2 rows and then scroll, It locks everything at row 16.

Hi Wendell Hawes, I understand how frustrating it can be when columns disappear and freeze panes don’t behave as expected especially when you’re trying to keep your spreadsheet organized.

If columns A, B, and C are missing they are most likely hidden or affected by a freeze pane setting. To resolve this select the first visible column such as D, right click and choose Unhide. If the issue persists remove any freeze panes by going to View selecting Freeze Panes and choosing Unfreeze Panes then scroll back to the left to confirm the columns are visible. For the second issue where freezing locks at row 16 instead of the top two rows first unfreeze panes click on cell A3 and then apply Freeze Panes again. This ensures only rows 1 and 2 remain locked when scrolling.

Can you clarify whether the issue occurs in all sheets of the workbook or only in this specific sheet?

    Best regards

To address your issues in Excel:

    1. Columns A, B, and C Not Appearing: It’s possible that these columns are hidden. You can unhide them by selecting the columns adjacent to A and right-clicking to choose "Unhide". If the R1C1 reference style is enabled, you might see numeric labels instead of the usual alphabetic labels. To switch back to the A1 reference style, go to Tools > Options > Formulas tab and uncheck the R1C1 reference style option.
    2. Locking the Top Rows: If you're trying to lock the top two rows but it locks at row 16 instead, ensure that you are selecting the correct rows before applying the freeze. To freeze the top two rows, go to View > Freeze Panes > Freeze Top Row. If this does not work as expected, check if there are any merged cells or other settings that might be affecting the freezing behavior.
