Unable to check boxes in Share Point

I created a fillable form using the developer tab in Word and included check boxes. All work great; however, once I upload the form to Share Point the check boxes no longer work. How do I fix this?

    Check Box Content Control/Check box form field/ActiveX check box are not supported in the Word Online.

    If you open the sharepoint file in word online, this will not work, we suggest you open a file containing checkboxes in word app.
