I have a HP Laptop 17th-cn300. I run windows 11 for the home. My laptop updated overnight and I woke up to the updates not fully installing and my Google waffle was gone and I couldn't log in to my normal stuff. All files are still here. I've tried running the update troubleshooter and download and install the updates, but they keep failing. I don't know what to do. Any ideas?

    Hi Kelley,

Please post the screenshot of the Windows Update history page in Settings. Also, run winver.exe and note the OS build number and post the information here.

It sounds like you're experiencing issues with Windows 11 updates on your HP laptop. Here are some steps you can try to resolve the update failures:

    1. In-place Upgrade: You can perform an in-place upgrade using an ISO file. This method allows you to keep your files and applications. Here’s how to do it:
      • Download the Windows 11 ISO from the Microsoft website.
      • Double-click the ISO to mount it, then run Setup.exe.
      • Follow the prompts and make sure to select the option to keep personal files and apps.
    2. Check for Errors: If the updates continue to fail, check for specific error codes that might provide more insight into the issue. You can look these up for potential solutions.
    3. Windows Update Troubleshooter: Since you've already tried this, ensure that you run it again after any changes you make to your system.
    4. Free Up Space: Ensure that you have enough disk space available for the updates. You can use Disk Cleanup to remove unnecessary files.
    5. Reset Windows Update Components: If the problem persists, you might need to reset the Windows Update components. This can be done via Command Prompt with administrative privileges.
    6. Contact Support: If none of the above solutions work, consider reaching out to Microsoft Support or HP Support for further assistance.

Make sure to back up your files before proceeding with any major changes to your system.
