The behavior points to a problem with the Intel UHD display driver, not “cooked” hardware, especially since the flicker stops when using the RTX 4060.
Try these steps in order:
- Reset the graphics driver
- Press Windows logo key + Ctrl + Shift + B.
- The screen will blink and you may hear a beep; this reloads the graphics driver.
- If the flicker continues, go on to the next steps.
- Check if Task Manager flickers
- Press Ctrl + Alt + Delete and open Task Manager (or press Ctrl + Shift + Esc).
- Watch the screen:
- If Task Manager flickers along with everything else, the display driver is likely the cause → follow the “Fix your display driver” steps below.
- If Task Manager does not flicker while the rest of the screen does, an app is likely the cause → see “Update or uninstall an incompatible app”.
- Fix the Intel UHD display driver
Use Device Manager to roll back, update, or reinstall the Intel driver. Windows will not be permanently “messed up” by uninstalling the driver; it will reinstall a driver on restart.
a) Roll back the display driver (if the issue started after an update)
- In the taskbar search box, type device manager and open it.
- Expand Display adapters.
- Right-click the Intel UHD adapter and select Properties.
- Go to the Driver tab and select Roll Back Driver > Yes.
- Restart the laptop and test for flicker.
Note: If Roll Back Driver is greyed out, there is no previous driver to roll back to; continue with update/uninstall.
b) Update the display driver
- In Device Manager, expand Display adapters.
- Right-click the Intel UHD adapter and select Update driver.
- Choose to search automatically. If nothing newer is found, also check HP’s support site for the latest graphics driver for the Omen 16 and install it.
c) Uninstall and let Windows reinstall the driver
If roll back and update do not help, reinstall the driver cleanly:
- In Device Manager, expand Display adapters.
- Right-click the Intel UHD adapter and select Properties.
- Go to the Driver tab and select Uninstall Device.
- Check Attempt to remove the driver for this device (or Delete the driver software for this device, depending on the dialog), then select OK.
- Restart the laptop. Windows will attempt to reinstall a working driver automatically.
Note: Administrator rights are required to roll back or uninstall drivers. If the option to remove the driver is missing, start Windows in safe mode and try again.
- If an app is causing the flicker
If Task Manager does not flicker but the rest of the screen does, remove incompatible apps one by one:
- Go to Start > Settings > Apps > Installed apps (Windows 11).
- Find any recently updated or display-related apps (screen recorders, overlays, color or HDR tools, etc.).
- Select the app > Uninstall > Uninstall and confirm.
- Restart and test. Repeat for other suspect apps until the flicker stops.
- Reinstall needed apps from Microsoft Store > Library or from the manufacturer’s site once the issue is resolved.
If, after these driver and app steps, the screen still flickers only on Intel UHD and not on the RTX 4060, contact HP support, as there may be a firmware or hardware-specific issue with the integrated GPU or panel connection.
