Multiplayer for Minecraft Java on a child account is controlled by the Xbox/Microsoft family online safety settings and can take time to propagate.
Based on similar cases, do the following:
- Sign in as the organizer (parent) at the Xbox privacy and online safety settings page and open the child’s profile.
- Under the child’s Privacy & online safety settings, ensure the following option is set to Allow:
- You can join multiplayer games / Play games with others in Xbox multiplayer.
- Save the changes.
- Sign out the child from the Xbox app/Minecraft Launcher on the PC.
- Restart the PC and sign the child back in.
- Wait for the settings to propagate. In a reported case, it took over 24 hours after changing “You can join multiplayer games” to Allow before multiplayer started working.
If multiplayer is still disabled immediately after changing the setting, wait up to a day and try again, as the permissions may not update instantly on all services.
