Why is my laptop camera dark? Even though I've opened the cover, it's still dark, you can only see his face when you're in an open room, even though in my room the light is on, the window is open, it's still dark, pls

If you are sure you have opened any privacy shutter that may exist on your webcam, open the Settings app in Windows.

Go to Bluetooth and Devices - Camera.

    Click the 'Integrated Camera' setting.

In there, you can adjust settings on your webcam like Brightness, Contrast, Saturation.. etc. to try to improve the image on your webcam.

If that does not resolve the problem, laptop webcams are not very sensitive, you indicate you are using a room light, in that case, you need to be facing the light, i.e. the light in your room needs to be behind the laptop screen, not behind you.

A dark image from the laptop camera in Windows 11 is usually caused by one of these issues: physical blocking, poor lighting, or driver/settings problems. Try these steps in order:

    1. Check for a physical shutter or switch
      • Look closely around the camera lens for a small slider or shutter that can cover the lens. Make sure it is fully open.
      • Some laptops have a camera key on the keyboard (often on the function keys, sometimes used with the Fn key) that turns the camera on/off. Press that key (or Fn + that key) to ensure the camera is enabled.
    2. Clean and check the camera lens
      • Gently wipe the camera lens with a soft, clean cloth to remove dust or smudges.
      • Make sure nothing (stickers, tape, or a case) is partially covering the lens.
    3. Test the camera in the Windows Camera app
      • Select Start > Camera and see if the preview is also dark.
      • If the camera looks normal in the Camera app but dark in another app (like Teams or Zoom), adjust the video settings inside that specific app.
    4. Update or reinstall the camera driver
      • Select Start > Device Manager.
      • Expand Cameras and right‑click the laptop camera.
      • First try Update driver > Search automatically for drivers, then restart and test.
      • If still dark, in Properties > Driver choose Uninstall Device (check Delete the driver software for this device if available), then on the Action menu select Scan for hardware changes to reinstall the driver and restart the PC.
    5. Check for Windows and optional driver updates
      • Go to Start > Settings > Windows Update > Check for updates.
      • If available, select Advanced options > Optional updates and install any camera or device driver updates.
      • Restart the device and test the camera again.
    6. Use the Camera troubleshooter (Windows 11)
      • Go to Start > Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters.
      • Find Camera and select Run. Apply any fixes it suggests and test again.

If the image is still very dark after these steps and lighting in the room is clearly sufficient, the camera hardware may be faulty or limited in low‑light performance. In that case, contact the device manufacturer for further diagnostics or repair.
