    Hello Eyhab Aref,

There's actually two things stacked in your case and they have different fixes, so before suggesting steps a couple of quick questions:

    • For the "We couldn't send the code" message — which verification method are you trying (email, SMS, Authenticator)? And do you have any other methods set up on the account at https://account.microsoft.com/security?
    • For error 0x8004de44 — are you on a VPN or behind a proxy / corporate / school network by any chance? This error is most often tied to that.
    • And just to isolate: if you open https://onedrive.com in a browser on the same PC, does signing in there work?

Once I know those, I can point you at the right fix.

Error code 0x8004de44 with OneDrive Personal Vault typically indicates that Personal Vault is locked or not up to date and needs to be unlocked and fully synced before access is restored.

Follow these steps on Windows 10:

    1. Unlock Personal Vault
      • In OneDrive, select the Personal Vault folder.
      • In the Verify your identity dialog, choose another verification method if email codes are not arriving:
        • Text (SMS) to a registered phone number, or
        • The Microsoft Authenticator app (recommended). The app can generate a code even without Internet access.
      • Enter the code to unlock Personal Vault.
    2. Bring Personal Vault up to date
      • After unlocking, close any files stored in Personal Vault.
      • Wait for OneDrive sync to complete; watch the OneDrive sync icon in the taskbar until it shows that sync is finished.
      • If there are many or large files, extend the auto-lock time so Personal Vault stays unlocked long enough:
        • Open OneDrive settings → Account → change the Personal Vault auto-lock time to a longer interval.
    3. Access files and then lock again
      • Once sync completes, open the files needed from Personal Vault.
      • When finished, lock Personal Vault from the Personal Vault folder by selecting Lock.

If email codes are never received, ensure another verification method (phone number or Microsoft Authenticator) is configured for the Microsoft account, then use that method to unlock Personal Vault.
