I have no idea how to fix this, google isnt helping either since it auto spell JPE to JPG. It always happens when downloading an image, this never happened before ive been using Opera GX for years and it just happened recently. I tried to rename it into .jpeg but it doesnt work it still JPE.
Open Windows PowerShell and copy/paste/run the following command:
(Get-ItemProperty -Path 'Registry::HKCR\MIME\Database\Content Type\image/jpeg' -Name 'Extension').Extension

If this problem is occurring with the Opera GX browser, try downloading the images using a different browser.
If the problem does no happen on another browser, then completely uninstall Opera GX and download the latest version of Opera GX to test if that resolves the problem.
If the same problem occurs in another browser, then the problem may be caused by a server side issue on the website you are downloading the images from or the website developer has deliberately set the website to use the .jpe file extension for downloads.

If the images are downloading as .jpe files, are you able to manually rename them to .jpg, not .jpeg?
The Microsoft Photos app should open files with the JPE extension.
From the article: https://fileinfo.com/extension/jpe
What is a JPE file?: 24-bit compressed JPEG graphic format that is commonly used for Web graphics; best suited for photos or images that contain lots of colors; also used by most digital cameras for saving digital photos.
