Change sFTP password length of 88 characters

Hello, I hope you can help me.

I enabled sFTP on an Azure Blob Storage Container. But the SSH password that is created by default is 88 characters.

The usage of this sFTP is to load photos taken by an IP camera, but this camera accepts a password of max. 16 characters. I am sure there are other devices that have this limitation.

In the Azure Portal I dont see options to manually change this password. What are my alternatives? Thank you!

Hi, Using scanners, there's close to no one supporting 88 character pw's. My newly ordered Brother ADS-1700W for uploading to AZURE supports up to 33 pw characters. Please advice! /Magnus

Its a shame, I cant use this service without flexibility on (1) Manually changing the password or (2) Generate password of 16 characters.

Same problem here... e.g. EPSON Workforce Scanner: No way of entering such a long password...

I tried to use Azure native SFTP to receive files from a vendor. They provide a browser interface to configure the destination FTP that allows a maximum of 30 characters for a password.

As such, I had to use a different solution; I ended up using this: https://github.com/Azure-Samples/sftp-creation-template

We don’t allow manual passwords due to security concerns. The Azure generated password is structured to meet Storage security requirements. We have not come across any other use cases that require a shorter password due to client limitations but will keep your scenario in your bucket.

If you wish you may leave your feedback here, All the feedback you share in these forums will be monitored and reviewed by the Microsoft engineering teams responsible for building Azure.

Is it possible for the camera to push the image to a computer/server that has a standard SFTP client which can upload to Blob storage?

Hello Sumarigo, appreciate your quick response.

The Feedback link you provided is not working.

Why would we use a standard sFTP if we are interested, specifically, on using the sFTP capability of Azure Blob Storage Container?
Furthermore, I doubt that an average users has a password of 88 characters. Dahua and Hikvision are big Chinese IP Cameras producers. This Azure restriction is a limiting factor in this market.

I would greatly appreciate your help on this topic.

We are also unable to use this SFTP service as 4 out of 5 services we want to use do not support the 80 or so characters.
Such a shame and hopefully Microsoft can resolve this and reduce or allow custom created passwords.

We are in this same scenario. We would love to use this product but the password length is prohibitive to use on many devices.

Hello Sumarigo. Thanks for your help. I will reach out.

Automatically generating a password with less characters would solve this issue (make the length a parameter).

We are using two hikvision cameras: one ANPR camera (Hikvision iDS-2CD7A26G0/P-IZHS) and one Wide Angle camera (Hikvision DS-2CD2T45G0P-I).
We are currently using the camera API for image transfer, no FTP.
All Hikvision cameras in the market are restricted to a pwd of max 16 characters:

You might want to double check the internet access on those hikvision cameras and get a new platform. They are known to send data back to China

Also Cisco ISE and Cisco FMC are not capable of using 88 character passwords, so we cannot use this service as the backup repository as we would like to do.
