Microsoft Edge GPO settings not applying

We have been testing applying Microsoft Edge GPO settings to Edge, but have found that on all machines the settings do not apply. The GPO shows that it is applied in GPRESULT /R and in event logs, but the GPO's do not actually apply anything. The newest templates have been applied to our Domain Central Cache, but same issue applies. We tested by creating a simple GPO that just adds the Home button back to Edge, and applied it to both user and machine policy but neither applied on our test VM running Windows 10 21H2 even when shown to be active. This is done separately and then together to test. Has anyone been able to overcome this issue?

The question mentions that the GPO settings are not being applied to all machines, I think maybe this issue is related to the GPO management scope, you can try other non-Edge strategies to see if the same issue exists.

Other policies apply normally but specific settings applied to Edge such as managed bookmarks and showing the home button show applied, but do nothing. A GPRESULT /R shows that the policies applied but have no affect.

Hi @Jgoodsell ,

Have you checked if the corresponding group policy in target computers is updated? You can navigate to: edge://policy in Microsoft Edge to check it. Or use REGEDIT.exe on a target computer to view the registry settings that store group policy settings, these policy settings are located at this registry path: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Edge.

Yes, by going to edge://policy is how I found that the policy is not showing applied. GPResult shows it is applying but the browser shows it as not having applied.

Hi @Jgoodsell ,

If this is the case, please try updating group policy settings, for example a command like this: gpupdate /force, this might be work for you.

This was already tested and it made no difference. Machine was been rebooted, tested on a laptop and a VM. No settings apply, So far this only applies to Microsoft Edge GPO settings as all other GPO settings apply as expected.

Hi @Jgoodsell ,

What version of Edge are you using? Have you downloaded and installed the corresponding version of the Edge policy template? Just refer to this doc: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/deployedge/configure-microsoft-edge

By the way, what is the policy path you configured? It should be located at: Administrative Templates/Microsoft Edge.

Edge version being tested is "Version 102.0.1245.33 (Official build) (64-bit)".

The policies were downloaded on 4/22/2022 and are version below from the version file.

MAJOR=100
MINOR=0
BUILD=1185
PATCH=39

The Policy path being configured are below:

Administrative Templates/Microsoft Edge user only for original test.

Administrative Templates/Microsoft Edge machine only for second test.

Administrative Templates/Microsoft Edge for both User and Machine for third test.

Hi @Jgoodsell ,

Based on your description, it looks like these configurations are correct. And the two policies you mentioned above, I think they should refer to: FavoritesBarEnabled and ShowHomeButton. I read the relevant policy notes and they don't have other preconditions, but even then they don't apply correctly to the target machine. If possible, can you try deploying some other edge policies to determine if all or only some of the edge policies fail to apply. And please check if these policies are not working on some or all machines.

In addition, you could simple refer to this case, maybe you have a similar problem with it: Edge policies not applying.

Did you ever get an answer on this? I am having the same issue, and a version difference between the version of Enterprise Edge we are using and the adm template seems logical, but I am waiting for server access to verify that. Was that your issue? We are using version
