Hello,

I have a network configured as a workgroup. All 9 systems are Windows 10. I'm using one as a file server. My issue is I have shared the C drive on this file server giving everyone full control but from the workstations when I click onto Network and double click onto the file server name (Server) I receive the below error:

you do not have permission to access \Server Contact your network administrator to request access

Please advise!

Windows 10 Network
Windows 10 Network
Windows 10: A Microsoft operating system that runs on personal computers and tablets.Network: A group of devices that communicate either wirelessly or via a physical connection.

    Hi.
    Are you unable to access the file server from all computers or only one computer?
    The reason why you cannot access the server may be that the related service is not turned on. You can try the following steps:

    1. “Win+R” enter “services.msc”;
    2. Check whether the following services are enabled:
      • Function Discovery Provider Host (FDPHost)
      • Function Discovery Resource Publication (FDResPub)
      • Network Connections (NetMan)
      • UPnP Device Host (UPnPHost)
      • Peer Name Resolution Protocol (PNRPSvc)
      • Peer Networking Grouping (P2PSvc)
      • Peer Networking Identity Manager (P2PIMSvc)
    3. Restart the device and check the network tab again.

    Whether the SMB function is enabled, if not, please enable it according to the following steps:

    1. "Win+R "enter ”appwiz.cpl”;
    2. Click "Turn Windows features on or off";
    3. In the pop-up window, check "SMB 1.0/CIFS File Sharing Support", click "OK".

    I've implemented your suggestions on my new Win 11 laptop. I've connected to my wifi network I can see my other PCs on the network but when I double-click on the icon for my desktop I get the darn message. The desktop is running Win10. All of my PCs are running with the latest windows updates.

    I've encountered this issue in the past and was able to resolve it but I don't recall what the heck I did.
