How to Disable Autocorrect in IE11

  • Regardless of autocorrect settings in Windows 8.1, some words like "Company", "Desktop", etc. get capitalized automatically.
  • This is more of an issue for users that use more than one language to communicate, such as German OS and writing in English.

Note: This issue has been fixed during the Dezember 2013 patchday.

To manually fix this:

  1. Open the Start page.
  2. Type "regedit" and run it when it appears.
  3. Go to the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\TabletTip\1.7
  4. Click on Edit -> New -> DWORD (32-bit) Value
  5. Name the new value EnableAutocorrection and set it to 0.
  6. Restart IE.

Alas, this doesn't work for me. That is, the registry key was already there (possibly because I turned off autocorrect in Windows 8.0 through the UI?) but now, on Windows 8.1 using IE11 this seems to have no effect.

Doesn't work either. Still have spell checker when in "extended security mode". Please get that fixed after all the time, people complain about the spell checker since IE 10. It is very, very annyoing if it doesnt work, and it is even more annoying when it can't be disabled. Please do your homework, guys!
