Set up a warehouse as a location

Completed

In Business Central, a location is a place where physical items are stored, such as a warehouse, shop, van, and so on. On the Warehouse FastTab of the location card, you can configure if you want to process warehouse tasks in Business Central.

For locations where warehouse options aren't selected, no warehouse tasks are required.

This parameter means that you:

  • Post the receipt but don't process the put-away in Business Central.

  • Post the shipment but don't process the pick in Business Central.

  • Don't use bins.

  • Can only receive or ship one order at a time.

Depending on the warehouse tasks that you want to enable, you can select any of these warehouse options. For example, if you want to use bins and put away and pick items in a simple way, you could select the Require Put-away, Require Pick, and Bin Mandatory fields.

By selecting these fields, you'll enable the inventory put-away and pick documents. The process of setting up and using the inventory put-away and inventory pick documents is explained in the Inventory Management in Dynamics 365 Business Central learning path on Microsoft Learn. The following units discuss how to set up a Warehouse Management System warehouse in Business Central.
