Hello,
Can you use telnet to check if the WSUS server and the SMTP server are open and able to relay?

Hi there,
I'm trying to set up e-mail notifications for our WSUS servers. The WSUS servers are running on Windows Server 2019 OS. The strange thing is that testing e-mail notifications works just fine, but the regular reports don't work. Instead I only get an error event (ID 10052 in WSUS server's application event log) that says that the server is unable to send e-mail notifications. In addition I can't find any hint that the server is trying to send an e-mail. Neither does SoftwareDistribution.log show any signs that an e-mail is being sent nor does the firewall show any try of a connection to the e-mail server.
What can I do to make the e-mail notifications work?
Thanks in advance.
Yours sincerely
Dominik Betz

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Q&A forum.
Are you using a server name for the SMTP server.
Try to change that to an IPv4 address to see if it works.
