Hi @MS Techie , the pricing calculator does not directly talk about the retention period. However it talks about the 'Additional Backup storage' charging.
Firstly the costing of service also depends upon the backup storage. As per the article *"Backup storage is the storage associated with automated backups of your server. ***Increasing your backup retention period increases the backup storage that is consumed by your server*. There is no additional charge for backup storage for up to 100% of your total provisioned server storage. Additional consumption of backup storage will be charged in GB/month."***
Increasing the backup retention period might or might not impact the pricing/billing of Azure Database for PostgreSQL .
If the server is provisioned for 100 GB, back up storage of 100 GB is provided. When we increase the retention period anywhere from 7 to 35 days, there will be no extra cost if the back up storage is not increased beyond 100 GB space because there could be multiple back ups available. Only when the backup storage crosses that 100 GB limit, then extra charges will be levied as per the below pricing:
There are couple of good articles that explains the same if you would like to refer to them:
- https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/pricing/details/postgresql/server/
We can also check the same by increasing the retention period slider to the max value and observing that it has no monthly cost impact on the service:
