Hi all,

I have a server upgrade request from the client side.

The current server information is as follows:

  • OS: Microsoft Windows Server Data Center 2016
  • CPU, RAM: 4 cores, 16GB
  • SQL Version: Microsoft SQL Server 2017 (RTM-CU29-GDR) (KB5014553) - 14.0.3445.2 (X64) May 29 2022 12:36:31 Copyright (C) 2017 Microsoft Corporation Express Edition (64-bit) on Windows Server 2016 Datacenter 10.0 <X64> (Build 14393: ) (Hypervisor)

The request is to upgrade to the 2017 Standard version, I'm not sure if the download here is correct? If not, where should I look for it and what version should I to use?

In addition, I would like to ask if I have a license key, can I proceed to use it to try to upgrade on a test server and then use it to do on the production server?

Please let me know, tks!

Hi @Tung Nguyen

The request is to upgrade to the 2017 Standard version

To upgrade to a different edition of SQL Server, please refer to this document: Upgrade to a Different Edition of SQL Server (Setup).

For detailed information about the license issue, you can call 1-800-426-9400, Monday through Friday, 6:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. (Pacific Time) to speak directly to a Microsoft licensing specialist. Or you can go to Volume Licensing Service Center support. Please choose region/language and choose to call or have web.

Best regards,

Cosmog Hong

SQL Version: Microsoft SQL Server 2017.. Express Edition ... The request is to upgrade to the 2017 Standard version

Express to Standard is an Edition upgrade, that's easily possible using the existing Wizard, see Upgrade to a Different Edition of SQL Server (Setup)

I'm not sure if the download here is correct?

That's only the latest update, not the SQL Server installer as it. =>
