Windows 10 application association set only once

Hi,

during every Windows 10 deployment with MS Endpoint Configuration Manager, I always have to set the associations manually over the GUI. I want to do this over the GPO BUT very important, I want to apply associations only once and then give my users the possibility to select a web browser for themselves.
The setting in GPO "Set a default associations configuration file" does not cut it for us because this setting will get applied during logon.
Is there something I can try? GPO "Open With" in Folder options did not also get me far, aka nowhere.

Cheers!

    Hi,

Thanks for posting in Microsoft MECM Q&A forum.

We can try to use DISM command to add the default app association settings in Windows image file before we deploy it to the destination computers. For more detailed information, please refer to:

Export or Import Default Application Associations
Set default file association in windows 10 professional during OSD
Note: This is non-Microsoft link, just for your reference.

    Thanks for your time.

    Best regards,
    Simon

    Hi Simon,

the proposed solution is not flexible enough for us, but if it is the only one - then it will have to to do. Is there a way to do it in GPOs/Registry?

    Cheers!
