Hi,

Im working in IT support av we have started getting some strange cases, but not enough to trigger a proper investigation into what is causing it.

The symptoms are:

User connects to meeting or call and is notified that mic is muted by desktop.

User is unable to unmute microphone without it being muted immediately.

However, if the user open Skype for business settings and then go to audio device, the mic picks up audio and we are able to play a test sound. After closing the settings menu, the user can now unmute their mic and start talking. This workaround lasts until the skype application is fully exited.

We are using the newest SfB version

And OS is: win 11 and win 10

Trouble shooting steps we have done are:

Reboot of computer (obviously)

Restart of application

Checked Windows settings for privacy, all apps are allowed

Checked audio is working normally outside of skype.

Repair and reinstall of Office package.

Anyone have any further tips as to what we can do or what is causing this issue?

    Hi @Anonymous

Does anyone else have the same problem in your organization?

According to your description, your client could detect the microphone with no issue. To exclude the client issue, we recommend you try to clear your client cache file by following these steps:

    1. Log out of Skype for Business.
    2. Delete any sign-in info.
    3. Exit Lync.
    4. Open Run bar and type in %AppData%. Make sure you’re in the AppData directory and navigate to\Local\Microsoft\Office\15.0 (or 16.0)\Lync\ for Skype for Business and Lync 2013, or \Local\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Lync\ for Lync 2010.
    5. Delete sip_profileName folder. If you do not see this folder, check the \Local\Microsoft\Communicator directory.
    6. Delete all files in Tracing folder. Do not delete the folder itself.
    7. Clear DNS cache: in Command Prompt run ipconfig /flushdns command
