Hi All

I know you can move object types between resources, but the question I have is, can you move network resources to another resource group?

  • Connection
  • ExpressRoute
  • Virtual Network
  • Virtual Network Gateway

I would like to separate the network objects into their own resource group.

Cheers

Dave

Hello @Dave Thank you for reaching out to us. Happy to answer any questions you may have!

Based on your post, I understand that your ask is to know if the following network resources can be moved to another resource group (RG)?

    • Connection
    • ExpressRoute
    • Virtual Network
    • Virtual Network Gateway

Not all the resources can be moved across resource groups/subscriptions due to certain limitations and dependencies.

As per MS documentation - https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/azure-resource-manager/management/move-support-resources

    • Connection
    • Virtual Network

Yes - Supports move to another RG

    • ExpressRoute
    • Virtual Network Gateway

No - You need to recreate the resources in the target RG, if the move is not supported.
