    Hello,

Thank you for posting in Q&A forum.

The default feature for creating system restore points is not enabled in the Windows Server version. However, you can enable the relevant functions and create a system state backup to achieve a system restore point like effect by following these steps:

    • Enable system protection:

Click on the Start menu, enter Server Manager and open it.

In the Server Manager, click on Manage in the upper right corner, and then select Add Role and Function.

Follow the wizard to enter the "Features" section. Scroll down, find Windows Server Backup, check and install it. This feature includes the components required for backup and recovery.

    • Create restore point:

Open the start menu, enter Windows Server Backup and open it.

In the Windows Server Backup console, click on Local Backup on the left side.

Click on Backup Once or Backup Schedule to set up regular backups.

    Select Custom and click Next.

Click on Add Items and then select System State. This is the closest method to creating a system restore point.

Choose a backup destination, which can be different volumes or network shares.

Follow the prompts to complete the backup.

    • Access system state backup for recovery:

Open the start menu, enter Windows Server Backup and open it.

In the Windows Server Backup console, click on Local Backup on the left side.

In the right pane, click Restore.

Select the backup location (local or remote).

Select the date and time for backup.

    Select System State for recovery.

If your server is running in a Hyper-V environment, you can create checkpoints (snapshots) of virtual machines as an alternative method for system restore points.

By following the above steps, you can effectively manage features similar to system restore points on Windows Server 2016. If you have any further questions, please feel free to inquire.

    Best regards,

    Jill Zhou
