AVD - scaling plan

Hi,

I would like that during off peak hours all AVD's (we have 3) shutdown. At the moment 1 machine is always starting.

In "ramp-down" I have configured the time and depth-first. Minimum percentage of active hosts I have configured 0% and capacity threshold 1%.

The goal would be that no server is running during "off peak hours". Is this possible with a scaling plan?

We understand from your query that you are experiencing issue is that the Capacity threshold of 1% is preventing all AVDs from shutting down during off-peak hours.

To achieve your goal of having no servers running during off-peak hours, please try these steps:

Update the Ramp-down configuration:

Set Minimum percentage of active hosts to 0%

Set Capacity threshold to 0%

This will be scaling plan to reduce the number of active hosts to 0% and not maintain any minimum capacity during off-peak hours.

Add a Scale to zero option:

In the Azure portal, navigate to your AVD host pool>>Click on Scaling and then Edit>>Under Ramp-down, toggle the Scale to zero option to On

This will allow the scaling plan to scale down to zero active hosts during off-peak hours.

The problem is that I can't set the capacity threshold to 0%. Like you mentioned to add the Scale to zero option I can't find the option "Scale to zero option". I tried to edit the scaling plan but there I don't have this setting.

Maybe you have another Idea or can help me with a few screenshots?

While you can’t set the capacity threshold to 0%, you can set it to an extremely low value (e.g., 0.01% or 0.1%).

Hi @Nikhil Duserla thank you, but i can't set 0.01% there is only possible from 1-100. I would like that the AVD's doesn't start at this time.

Hi Matthias,Please consider using Azure Automation or Azure Functions to create a custom script that shuts down the AVDs during off-peak hours.

We do not have any solution that matches your query; however, we would suggest a third-party service, Nerdio’s NME can do this with their autoscaling features (and then some) in case your customer is open to looking at a partner solution.
