How do I set up two step authorization to my account?

I received this message: Update your sign-in technology before September 16th, 2024 to maintain email access. I have googled the process, watched youtube videos and I cannot find the buttons to make this update work. Is it because I have an old email address? It is a hotmail address. How do I do this step so that I do not lose my email adress.
