M365 group set as owner of SharePoint site, but unable to share externally

We have certain SharePoint sites set up so that only owners of the site can share externally. We have an M365 dynamic group - Chicago Regional Office Members that has been added as owners of the SharePoint Site, but not the Team. This used to work but is no longer working. How can we configure it so that Owners of the Site, not the Team can share externally, but members (where, incidentally, they are also included) cannot?

To ensure that only the owners can share externally, follow these steps:

1. Modify External Sharing Settings:
   • Go to your SharePoint admin center.
   • Select the specific site.
   • Change the sharing settings to allow sharing with "Only people in your organization".
   • This will restrict external sharing to site owners only.
2. Permissions for Members:
   • Confirm that regular members (not owners) are part of the "site members" group.
   • Regular members should not have the ability to share externally.
3. Test the Configuration:
   • Verify that only owners can share externally by testing with a regular member account.
