Needing to move folders and files from one Team to another, but this is problematic as the content is shared with various external contacts related to some established workstreams. Is there is way to migrate these to another Team without breaking the links?

For example, is there a way to create a redirect? Any other ideas?

    Hi @Catherine Mules - AKL

According to your case description, you need to move a folder and file that has established a shared link with the outside.

In Microsoft Teams, folders and files are actually stored in SharePoint or OneDrive. Manage sharing settings for SharePoint and OneDrive in Microsoft 365

Therefore, to achieve the move operation while keeping the original shared link unaffected, you can try the following methods:

    • Use SharePoint's "Move to" function: In Teams, open the file library and select "View in SharePoint". In SharePoint, select the file or folder to be moved. Click "Move to" and select the target organization's SharePoint document library. This will keep the file's shared link and permission settings. For details, please refer to this.
    • Use Power Automate: Create a Power Automate process to automatically copy or move files from one team's SharePoint document library to another team's document library.
    • Manually update the link: If the number of files is small, you can manually update the shared link of external contacts. Re-share the file in the new team and send the new link to the external contact.

Thanks for your understanding and support.
