hi everyone

maybe it is a stupid question but i'm pretty new to o365 admin.. ( i was always a network tech en admin, wifi, firewall,...)

so my question is :
we have a domain, lets say test123.com
but it is administered by a 3th party firm. they control the domain site.
mail had to go trough a o365 outlook connector... always problems with that.

now that company is bankrupt. so we found a new firm/company that controls our CRM customer files service ( we are a insurance company). by law we have to link e-mails to customer files.
we recieved all the DNS info from the bankrupt company.

now my question is: how do we take the domain ( existing) to our own control. i could gues we don't have to make a new domain.. bu simply change the DNS settings?
or do we give the control of our existing domain to the new company, because they work with O365 outlook connector as well? ( i hate the connectors btw...)
again, i did not handle DNS and doman stings in O365 before. only administer the accounts etc..

one of the problems we had with the connector... emails come in and go but all the stuff we did with O365 ( teams, to do,... couldtn sync to outlook) so if we made a a team meeting, we did'nt get the e-mail notification ( online wen we go to the O365 outlook web app, but we could't see the mails from our domain due to the connector..)

what would you suggest?
Thanks in advance!

kind regards
K

    @kevin deleux

    To avoid issues with your Microsoft services, I highly suggest you to either temporally change your users domain with another custom domain if you have one, if not, then you might need to use onmicrosoft.com domain.

    The reason I'm saying is that in case things turns bad between you and the one who has access to the DNS hosting side or maybe you try to transfer your the target domain to other DNS hosting provider.

    Moving a domain from 1 DNS hosting provider to another will take up to 7 days from the day it's initiated. And it might of course affect your services if you didn't plan or take action in advance.

    @kevin deleux

    First, you need to have access and control to the DNS hosting side of that domain. So you will need first to ask the one who has access to either grant you access as well or help you to transfer it to another DNS hosting provider where you will have fully control on your domains.

    What's I'm trying to say here is that, you will still need to cooperate with the one who has access to the DNS hosting side until you get back your domain and I'm sure Microsoft support will keep telling you to get in touch with the DNS hosting provider unless the target domain is hosted in Azure.
