For an assignment for my class I need to open a Virtual Machine. When I try to activate it I get this error message "Boot failure. Reboot and Select proper Boot Device or insert Boot Media in selected Boot Device". How can I fix this?

    Hello,

Try recreate a vm and check if this issue persist, if not ,maybe something is wrong when configuring the vm.

    Best Regards,

    Hello,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community forum.

Based on the description, I understand your question is related to cannot boot vm.

    1. Try changing the VM generation to “Generation 2” and see if that resolves the boot failure issue.

Right-click on your VM and select “Settings.”

Under the “General” tab, change the “Generation” to “Generation 2.”

Click “Apply” and then start the VM again.

    1. Go to the VM settings. Click on the “Firmware”.

Verify that the boot order is set correctly (Hard Drive first, followed by CD/DVD or ISO).

    1. If you’re using UEFI, consider switching to Legacy Boot (or vice versa).

Restart your computer and enter UEFI settings.

Search for the Legacy Boot option and enable or disable it.

Save changes and restart the computer.

    Have a nice day.

    Best Regards,

    Molly
