Edge split screen linked tabs not working?

Question

I discovered the split screen mode this morning and was very excited for the possibilities. I use a number of advanced web apps in my line of work and having a linked split screen where clicking links on one side opens them on the other was an exciting productivity boost. But it doesn't seem to be working. No matter what websites I have open left and right the links open on the side they were clicked. I can't find any documentation on this or how to fix it. Another good idea from MS that dies due to poor execution?!

As you can see, I should have the tabs linked to behave as described.

Hey, you are right, link unlink is not working as mentioned. work around is open split window and on the left and right click and then use the option we want until the issues is fixed...

I am having the same issue, but I think the reply misunderstands the problem.

I believe the problem is not the inability to enable and use Split Screen in Edge - that is working. The issue is that after the Split Screen is enabled, the Link Tabs feature (in the "..." pull-down menu on the upper right edge of each of the split screens - seen on the left in the OP's screenshot) does not seem to work. Links selected on either side of the Split always open in the same side.

I know this is an experimental feature, and might not be fully working, and there is a simple workaround: the context menu offers the choice of the split screens to open a link. But, since there is a menu option that seems to fail but is not greyed-out, it seems worth reporting, at least.

The split screen feature has two modes. One that links the split screens together, providing the feature you seek. The other mode that unlinks the split screens so URLs open on the current page, the behavior your experiencing. To link the split screens such that clicking a link on one, opens in the other screen, follow these steps.

1. Select the screen you wish to drive the other split screen.
2. Select the ellipse (...) in the upper right corner of this split screen.
3. Under "Tabs in split screen" select "Link tabs".

Have you enabled Split Screen in Edge flag settings?

1. Open Microsoft Edge and type the following path in the address bar and press Enter: edge://flags/#edge-split-screen
2. Find “Microsoft Edge Split screen” and select Enabled or Default.
3. Click the Restart button on the right bottom of the page.

If you still can't split screen in Edge, consider reporting the issues you're experiencing. This allows Microsoft to gather information and potentially address the problem in future updates. To submit feedback to the developers, open Edge, and click ··· in the upper-right corner > Help & Feedback > Send feedback.
