Installing LEGO MINDSTORMS NXT Robot software

Anyone ever try to install a LEGO Mind Storms NXT robot CD programming software on their 64-bit Win 7 OS?  I keep getting memory errors but this is a new laptop with plenty of memory (Acer Aspire 5740 with 4 G RAM, 320 G HD, Core i3 processor).  I can copy the CD files to the HD, and open the *.pdf files instructions for putting it together, but the software to do the programming (autorun.exe file) produces nothing but errors.  Someone told me that it works fine on Vista and XP.  Is there a way to run 7 with XP in another "window" or something?

Hi Ken,

What error message(s) do you get?

Check for logs in event viewer .

I'd suggest you follow these steps and check if it works.

Step 1:

Steps to install LEGO Mind Storms NXT:

a) Uninstall LEGO Mind Storms NXT software

b) Delete directory "Program Files\LEGO MINDSTORMS NXT" and its contents leftovers manually

c) Maybe search registry for LEGO MINDSTORMS NXT leftovers, too and delete them manually

d) Restart computer

e) Install LEGO Mind Storms NXT software again, then do a restart of computer

f) Install NXT Driver Update, then do a restart of computer

g) Install Dynamic Block Update, then do a restart of computer

h) LEGO Mind Storms NXT should work now

i) Install the other updates (Blocks)

Note: Log in as administrator while performing these steps.

Step 2:

If that does not work, you can try installing the program in Windows Vista or Windows XP compatibility mode and check if it helps.

If this doesn’t help, then you must contact the manufacturer for further assistance. Here’s the link:

this doesnt work, as windows wont actually install the program.  i put the CD in the drive, and windows starts up the autorun and i click 'English' it then goes through all the requirements, however it comes up with the same error message that says there is not enough space on the computer hard drive. this is a brand new Inspiron One with 1 terabyte of onboard memory. theres about 840 G left of on board memory. if i ignore these error messages and continue with the installation, it gets to the loading bar of installation and wont do anything.

how am i meant to install it ?

I also cannot get this to work.

In my case the driver and the English language pack install with the 'installing the program in Windows XP compatibility mode' but the actual software doesn't (possibly because it is a *.msi file?).

In fact, the software doesn't come up in the possible options to install at all.

    Is there a solution?
