I am getting the following error message occasionally: <!-- /* Style Definitions */ p.MsoNormal, li.MsoNormal, div.MsoNormal {mso-style-parent:""; margin:0in; margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:10.0pt; mso-bidi-font-size:12.0pt; font-family:Arial; mso-fareast-font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-bidi-font-family:"Times New Roman";} @page Section1 {size:8.5in 11.0in; margin:1.0in 1.25in 1.0in 1.25in; mso-header-margin:.5in; mso-footer-margin:.5in; mso-paper-source:0;} div.Section1 {page:Section1;} -->

“Another computer on this network has the same IP address as this computer.  Contact your network administrator for help resolving this issue.  More details are available in the Windows system event log.”

I cannot find the Windows system event log.  I have another computer attached to the same router, but I have not created a home group or file sharing, and the other computer is not even turned on.

How do I fix this?  What are the implications?

Thank you.

Hi ID245,

-       Since when are you facing this issue?

-       Did you make any changes to the comptuer before this issue started?

I would first suggest you to run Network troubleshooter  troubleshooter in Windows 7 and check if it finds any issues and if it is able to fix it.

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Using-the-Network-troubleshooter-in-Windows-7

Also you may try to release and renew the IP address and check if it helps.

To do this, click on start and in the start search box type cmd. Right click on CMD in the list and click on run as administrator. In the command prompt type ipconfig /release and press enter. Again type the command ipconfig /renew and press enter. Check if it displays the default gateway and post back the result.

Hope this helps. Let us know the results.

Thanks and Regards,
