    Hi,

    ·        Which version of Windows media player do you have?

    ·        Are other USB devices connected to the computer working fine?

The MTP (Media Transfer Protocol) is supported from WMP10 & onwards. If you have WMP 10 then upgrade it to WMP 11. An integrated component "Windows media device manager" will has capability to heal it.

Please download & install WMP 11 (if you don't have it) from below:

    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/11/default.aspx

Also download & install MTP porting kit

    Media Transfer Protocol Porting Kit

    and

    Media Transfer Protocol Enhanced Specification

    Thank you and Regards.

An old post, but still a great fix even for newer model phones. Thank you so much!

These links are now dead.  I need a way to get the MTP garbage working, as I cannot connect my Samsung Galaxy S2 to my XP service pack 3-version PC as a "media device" ever since the phone did an "upgrade" to Ice Cream Sandwich which has switched it to this MTP garbage (the way it connected before was as a USB connection, and it worked fine on "Gingerbread").

    Hi,

I would suggest you to try disconnecting the phone, uninstalling any current drivers for the phone, then reinstall Windows Media Player 11 again. Install the drivers/ software for the phone from the manufacturer’s website and then re-connect the phone. The settings will be detected automatically and then check whether the issue is resolved.

    Thank you and Regards.

    THANK YOU FOR YOUR REPLY

I ALREADY HAVE WMP11 AND I ALREADY INSTALLED MTP PORTING KIT ALSO

AND OTHER USB DEVICE ARE RUNNING FINE. MY PHONE IS DETECTED ON MASS STORAGE MODE AND IS VISIBLE IN MY COMPUTERS BUT DUE TO THIS PROBLEM MY DEVICE IS NOT DETECTED IN THE SOFTWARE PROVIDED WITH THE DEVICE
