Thank you XP Rock for the hint !

I downloaded the version 9.29.1974 executed but Window said that it found similar and/or equivalent version and so stopped the installation.  I relaunched dxdiag and still f mentioned version 4.09.0000.0904 that's quite bizarre...

I am going to delete the DirectX  in the registre and reinstall 9.0  then update with 9.29.1974 file and see if this will improve.

    Cheers.

    Hi Vijin,

I am using XP SP3  and tried method 1 this evening I am sorry to advsie that it did not work. After changing the acceleration materiel from "zero"(left) to "Complete"(right) and vice versa. In both cases  I relaunched WoT and got the following error

" An application has failed to start because DirectX hardware acceleration is not available or turned off"

I saw there are several notes on this issue in MS Community had followed these notes to troubleshoot but it did not improve either...

Is there anyway to verify that all dll files of DirectX 9.0c are properly copied proper directory ? I was surprise to see that the .dll files mentioned on dxdiag tool did not appear in DirectX directory. Also  the list of .dll files mentioned on article 179113 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/179113/EN-US?wa=wsignin1.0 on dxdiag tool.

I am wandering if they could be the root of disabling hardware acceleration... but again I am not an expert...

for method 2 i have sent a question to Gigabyte Support team and waiting for their reply on graphic ports driver.

    Thanks for your advices

    Jean-Rene

    Thanks Vijin,

I will apply your advices on Method 1 and will report the outcomes.

    Method 2:

The BIOS on my motherboard is Gigabyte Model: P35-DS4 version 2.0

The latest updated BIOS is F14 for this model as per Gigabyte.

I have not checked their Accelerated Graphics Port Driver.. and will do it also with the manufactor.

    Again appreciate your inputs

    Cheers

    Hi Jean,

The error code D3DERR_NOTAVAILABLE is due to this device does not support the queried technique.

Try the following methods and check if it helps.

    Method 1:

To adjust graphics hardware acceleration, follow these steps:

    a.     Click Start, click Run, type desk.cpl, and then click OK.

    b.     Click Display Settings.

    c.     Click Advanced Settings.

    d.     Click the Troubleshoot tab, and then click Change settings.

Collapse this imageExpand this imageIf you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Allow.

    e.     Move the Hardware Acceleration slider two notches to the left of Full (the Disable cursor and bitmap accelerations setting).

    f.      Click OK, and then click Restart Now.

    g.     After the computer has restarted, test the game.

    Method 2:

The other thing which we can try in order to fix the issue would be to update the motherboard chipset driver and also perform a BIOS (Basic Input Output System) update.

Accelerated Graphics Port driver within Device Manager(System Devices)install the motherboard update from the motherboard manufacturers website. Ensure that you have the correct update for your motherboard model for most systems, without this, your video card will run in PCI-Mode.

Note: Modifying BIOS/ complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) settings incorrectly can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from booting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that any problems resulting from the configuring of BIOS/CMOS settings can be solved. Modifications of the settings are at your own risk.

Hope the information provided is helpful.
