Hi Folks,

I have omega plus malware installed in my machine. I have tried the below steps but didn't work. Please guide me if I can try any other way to remove it.

Steps tried:

  1. Remove Omiga plus from Google setting as default page.
  2. Uninstalled google chrome and on reinstalling, chome does not open at all.
  3. Tried uninstalling from control panel but on clicking on uninstall it shows a diff looking window to uninstall, tried to uninstall but didn't happen.
  4. Removed Quick sort from extensions, it worked but omega is there.
  5. Omiga is present in IE as well, its internet options setting window shows default browser as blank.

I have V9 malware installed as  well :),

What good free anti virus should I install to protect such browser malwares in future. I have Mcaffe.

Thanks for your time guys!!

Remove the Omega Redirect using the steps here. It should take care of the V9 as well.

Regarding a security program, I would suggest either Avast (free) or Microsoft Security Essentials.

Avast

Microsoft Security Essentials

Be sure to cleanup McAfee completely.

Malwarebytes is able to remove this type of virus, download it at malwarebytes.org and run a threat scan.

If you are running Windows 8, as you've selected when posting your question, then you actually already have Windows Defender, but it is disabled by McAfee. The malware you have encountered would not have been stopped by either as they were likely installed by you when you installed a freeware or shareware program.
