'ffffffffff' problem Windows 7

Hallo Everyone,

I  am using Windows 7 Home Premium since last 3 years. Just 10 days ago, my wife tried to clean the laptop with a cloth. Right from then, the keyboard keys were behaving differently. When i typed the letter w, the system would print ws and so on. I thought it was issue of Short keys or may be due to the Language settings. The next day, some of the keys stopped working entirely and wont display anything when i type. All the Number keys and other symbols keys are working perfectly, but the Alphabet keys doesnt work. Then i bought an external Keyboard which is working well now.

Meanwhile, one problem started surfacing. When i placed my cursor wherever input is possible, say for example: Firefox adress bar or User id field in gmail or Password field, the letter 'f' is being typed continuously. When i click the Windows button, the search box is filled with the letter f infinite times. I tried to open the Explorer, i can just open my C Drive and i couldnt open any folders in the C Drive and a text file is opened automatically ("freefallprotection.log") and the letter f is typed automatically repeatedly.

I thought it was due to some Malware or Virus and reinstalled Windows. To my surprise, the problem still persists. When i log on to the Windows, i can hear  a sound (sounds like an error message).

I did find the temporary solution to this problem before i could reinstall the windows. When i click the Windows button and press the E letter on my laptop, the 'ffffffffffffff' problem stops. A small info here: when i press the 'Windows + E' combination from the external keyboard, the problem doesn't stop. Now i get the feeling that, this problem may not be due to any Virus but some shortcut keys. I just dont know.

Did anyone face this problem before? I hope someone can help me.

Note: My laptop doesn't have the NumLock key :(

Thanks in Advance.

Best regards,

Rama

    Hi,

My recommendation is to take keyboard to a reputable repair center and have them clean the keyboard unless you know how to take it apart and do it yourself.

The key may be electronically stuck.

Press Left & Right CTRL key at the same time.  Does the key continue to ffffffffff?

Press Left Shift + Windows Key.  Does the issue persist?

Don't use Win+L to lock your local desktop.  Either lock your machine through the start menu or, if your machine is configured for it, Ctrl-Alt-Del and select Lock Desktop.

1: Open 'on screen' keyboard which is in the accessories/accessibility menu.

2: Press the 'on screen windows key'.

    See if the issue persists.
