Choose columns during migration when using SSMA

Is it possible to select specific columns when we migrate data from source to target in SSMA?

Basically, I am getting error while migrating table data which contains computed columns in source side. So I was looking for either excluding the column while migration so that I can create table without computed columns and migrate data by just selected noncomputed columns from source table.

I wanted to avoid changes to source side.

Hey,

What source platform are you migrating from and what version of SSMA you are using? I think this issue was resolved in SSMA for MySQL in v8.16. Are you migrating from other platform or using older version? Can you upgrade to latest?

Alternatively you can make these columns "non-computed" in the target database for the migration and then delete and recreate as computed back again.

Hey Alexander,
Can you please help me with a migration issue. We have created a db in SQL Server and used EF core code first to create the tables an schema. Now we want to migrate the date from one My Sql DB to the new Sql Server. the schemas are identical apart from 2 tables. How can I map or select columns which I want to migrate. The source table has one more column than the destination.

Any help would be appreciated, I have been spending a lot of time to figure this out but no luck :(

Hello,

SSMA is not an ETL tool, it doesn't support transformations/mapping for data movement. I'd suggest you to use SSIS to do the data migration.

Thanks @Alexander Ivanov , I am using SSMA for DB2 and I am using quite recent one. Pls advise if its applicable for this version 8.16 and provide links for the tutorial or documentation.

I tried alternative option but it did not work for me. If there is any additional settings needed, pls do let me know.

We will take a look at DB2 as well, might be a similar fix we need to make.

Can you please provide more details why alternative option "did not work"? If you change your columns to not be computed, then it is simply moving all columns from DB2 to SQL. Does it mean you cannot migrate any table at all? What error are you getting when migrating a table to a target that does not have computed columns defined?

As a team we have decided to removed computed columns from Target so we did not try this option later. But if I get this similar case in future, I will post the error details.

Additional response: We were unable to migrate the data when source and destination had computed columns even when I changed target from computed to standard columns it failed the data migration for entire table.

Hi @Alex Li-MSFT , I am also trying to move data from DB2 to SQL . How did you enabled extended data migration option?? I want to move selective column data from Db2 to SQL for certain tables
