I have BSOD which seems to have occurred after an automatic update on 21 October (last month).

As I can't boot up, how do I repair this?

Thanks

    Hi Keiron,

Thank you for the quick update.

I understand your concern. In order to successfully boot your system, you might need to repair some startup files as detailed in the following methods.

    Method 1

    Please follow the underlying steps:

***Step 1.***Disconnect all the external devices connected except mouse and keyboard.

Step 2. I would have you boot your computer in the last known good configuration.

If Method 1 does not help, proceed to method 2.

    Method 2

As you are unable to boot your computer at all, I would suggest you to run a Startup Repair to repair the corrupted startup system files and try to boot in normal mode. Refer to the section: How do I use Startup Repairin the following link.

    **Startup Repair: frequently asked questions**

If it does not help, try to boot from a Windows 7 installation disc to the **Windows Recovery Environment** mode, and then try to run Startup Repair and check if you are able to boot normally.

Please post back your results for further assistance.

    Hi Keiron,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

Do you have Service Pack 1 installed in your Windows 7?

Any part of the disk subsystem can cause the PROCESS1_INITIALIZATION_FAILED bug check, including bad disks, bad or incorrect cables, mixing different ATA-type devices on the same chain, or drives that are not available because of hardware regeneration.

This bug check can also be caused by a missing file from the boot partition or by a driver file that a user accidentally disabled in the Drivers tab or this issue occurs because the Bootcat.cache file is corrupted or because the size of the Bootcat.cache file is changed since the last successful start.

In order to fix the issue, I would suggest you to install Service Pack 1 for Windows. For more suggestions refer to the following Microsoft support article dedicated to this error message in Windows 7:

"Stop error code 0x0000006B PROCESS1_INITIALIZATION_FAILED" error message during startup on a computer that is running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2

Hope this information is helpful. Do let us know if you need any further assistance, we will be glad to assist you.
