TouchControl app .... HP simplepass

This app is stopping my computer from shutting down, I am having to click shut down anyway. How can I prevent this without going to end task every time? I did not have this issue before the last Windows 10 update.

Is there a fix for this?

Thank you

Hi Meme. I'm Greg, a volunteer installation specialist and 8 year Windows MVP, here to help you.

Is this an HP which has SimplePass software installed? If so it can generate this error at Shutdown until it is uninstalled. If you don't use the fingerprint scanner in HP you can uninstall it in Settings > Apps & Features. Otherwise Update the software from HP's Support Downloads webpage using your Serial Number from sticker on PC.

If not that issue then update the touch drivers/software for your PC from the Manufacturer's Support Download webpage.

Turn off all Startup Freeloaders using Step 4 of this Checklist: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki...

Post back the exact verbatim error message you're getting.

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and let us know how it goes. I will keep working with you until it's resolved.

    Press Windows key + X

    Click Task Manager

Look under the Processes tab then see if the option is there to close the app.

Another option is to use Task Kill to find and kill the app. Learn how:

Hi Meme, is your system a HP?

If so, try disabling the Simple Pass app from Startup . . .

Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager

    Click on the Startup Tab

See if Simple Pass is listed there

If it is, select it and click 'Disable'

    Close Task Manager

Click your Start Button, type msconfig and hit Enter

When the System Configuration dialog opens, click on the Services Tab

Check the box marked 'Hide Microsoft Services'

In the remaining list look for Simple Pass, uncheck it if it is there

    Click Apply and OK

Restart your System and this annoyance will be gone . . .
